Sweet Auburn Springfest 2012 Brings Great Music From Global Artists to Atlanta | Rolling Out - Black News, Celebrity Videos, Entertainment, Business & Politics

The city of Atlanta is preparing for a momentous Mother’s Day weekend. They are hosting thousands of festivalgoers at an Auburn Avenue annual street festival from Friday, May 11 to Sunday, May 13, 2012.

Historic Auburn Avenue is dubbed as the birthplace of Atlanta’s black middle class and the district that’s always buzzing with black businesses, institutions, entertainment and culture. In keeping the tradition alive, the late Charles E. Johnson founded the Spirit of Sweet Auburn (SOSA).

Johnson’s daughter, Deneen Johnson-Jordan, is stepping her pumps into dad’s big footprints to produce this year’s Sweet Auburn Springfest, which is predicted to attract 350,000 attendees from across the globe.

On Thursday, May 10, 2012, at The Legends, Heroes and Heroines Awards Dinner, SOSA will honor community leaders including Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery; Congressman John Lewis; Georgia state House Representative Tyrone Brooks; Dr. M.L. King Jr.’s nephew, Isaac Newton Farris; Greg Pridgeon (CEO of Rockdale County and member of the Gandhi Foundation); Brenda Muhammad (director of Atlanta Victim Assistance); and Willie A. Watkins (proprietor of Willie Watkins Funeral Home Inc., SCLC board member and NAACP executive member). The evening’s keynote will be given by motivational speaker Mike Howard.

Sweet Auburn Springfest stretches down Auburn Avenue from Courtland to Jackson Street

On Friday, May 11, 2012, the Sweet Auburn Springfest 2012 will be in full swing through Sunday, May 13, 2012. This year’s theme is “Keeping the Legacy Alive: Preserving the Past, Celebrating the Present, Building The Future.” The Pre-Sweet Auburn Springfest Show kicks off at Underground Atlanta at noon.

At the Festival, which stretches from Courtland to Jackson Street, attendees should expect to make new friends and be prepared to be entertained, fed and tanned. Meet with fellow grown folks at V-103 Dobbs Plaza Stage where bands will perform live. The Just 4 Women Stage, Youth Stage, Calhoun Park Stage, Big Bethel Amphitheater Gospel Stage, Inspirational Stage and the Senior Stage lining the seven blocks will offer unforgettable entertainment.

The artists lineup includes the legendary B.B. King’s youngest daughter, blues singer Claudette King, comedian Malachi, hip-hop soul singer Renee Gardner, rapper Kaos, acoustic artists Neferiti and the Neftumes, and so much more. –yvette caslin

Festival hours are Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. For a complete schedule and list of acts, please visit www.sweetauburn.com.

Add It Up Lyrics:

Day after day
I will walk
And I will play
But the day after today
I will stop
And I will start

Why can't I get just one kiss?

Why can't I get just one kiss?
Believe me, there's some things that I wouldn't miss
But I look at your pants, and
I need a kiss

Why can't I get just one screw?

Why can't I get just one screw?
Believe me I know what to do
But something won't let me make love to you

Why can't I get just one fuck?

Why can't I get just one fuck?
I guess it's got something to do with luck
But I waited my whole life for just one...

Day after day

I get angry
And I will say
That the day
Is in my sight
When I'll take a bow
And say goodnight

Oh mymymymymymomymum

Have you kept your eye, your eye on your son?
I know you've had problems
You're not the only one
When your sugar left, he left you on the run

Oh mymymymymymomymum

Take a look now at what your boy has done
He's walkin' around like he's number one
He went downtown and he got him a gun

So don't shootshootshoot that thing at me

Don't shootshootshoot that thing at me
You know you've got my sympathy
But don't shootshootshoot that thing at me

Broken-down kitchen at the top of the stairs

Can I mix in with your affairs?
Share a smoke, make a joke
Grasp and reach for a leg of hope

Words to memorize

Words hypnotize
Words make my mouth exercise
Words all fail the magic prize
Nothin' I can say
When I'm in your thighs

Momymymymymymomy mother

I would love to love you, lover
The city is restless, it's ready to pounce
Here in your bedroom, ounce for ounce

I'm givin' you a decision to make

Things to lose, things to take
Just as he's about ready to cut it up
She said:
"Wait a minute, honey
I'm gonna add it up,"

Oh, add it up

Add it up
Add it up
Add it up

Day after day

I get angry
And I will say
That the day
Is in my sight
When I'll take a bow
And say goodnight

Clinically Speaking...

iiM not saying that iiM crazy, but...
If iiDie a gifted, black, talented, unique, and accomplished reflection of light...
...who is also classified as 'clinically' *anything* (depressed, insane, etc)...
...please don't teach it to the babies in a way that discourages them from aspiring to break greater boundaries.
...some of the greatest we have ever had were clinically *something*.
...And how we need them and love them just the way they are, even more as they put it all on the line to share their gifts wth us.
Donny Hathaway Ase

Nina Simone Ase
and the list goes on...Aseyo...

Twitters Twit : Why I Can't Live Without My Radio

when iiWas little, and iiGot in trouble, they would take away my radio.
worst childhood punishment ever to a future self-proclaimed singer/songwriter, looking back on it.
iiWoke up to Ryan Cameron (and eventually Frank Ski & Wanda Smith) and went to sleep to Joyce Lattel...via the music they played and their voices traveling to me via the airwaves...

The only reason iiDidn't hear all the other personalities was because iiWas at school.
There iiD play the music iiHeard on the radio with the school band...and, of course, crack a book or three, take some notes, you know, school stuff. (SWD rocks the house, btw).

iiWas too young to even know LL Cool J lyrics from back in the day. This song came out before iiWas born.
Even at that age, "iiKnow iiCan't live without my radio..."

shoutout the musicians n' music lovaz who feel the same...about ur ipod nowadayz...
