Long Version
Nefertiti ‘Nathen’ Akinyela is a musician/poet/songwriter/ singer/producer from Decatur, Ga. Raised in a family with African-centered values and customs, they always felt as if they stood out among schoolmates, but was able to find their place despite this. As a child, they always had a profound love for music.
Nate used to create musical instruments out of items around the house. They enjoyed working with subjects that involved telling a story or writing, but music was their first love. At the age of 12, Nathen began playing the trumpet in the school's orchestra. During that year they were selected to be in the district's honor band as well as it's honor chorus. They continued in the orchestra and began to experiment with other brass instruments like the baritone and trombone.
In high school nathen joined the Southwest Dekalb Marching Band, making the district's honor band another 3 times before becoming the section leader of the trumpet section, senior year as well as becoming more proficient on both the trombone and baritone.
Nefertiti began to write poetry at 15 while studying a poetry series in school. The series of study lasted only a week, but a new love for poetry and writing had been opened up in them and nate never stopped writing poetry. Because the subject matter of their poetry at the time felt so private and personal, they only shared the poems with close friends and family.
Nathen continued her poetry writing throughout high school and after enrolling in Florida A&M University. Although they had only played brass instruments in their band experience, Nefertiti always had an urge to play a stringed instrument (in fact, before the trumpet they first tried out on the double bass, but the orchestral instructor said their hands were too small :/).

After much begging and pleading with their parents to buy a guitar and receiving it as a kwanzaa gift, they, then, allowed it sit in the case for a full year, thereafter.
During the spring of 2005, Nefertiti met a stranger walking by strumming his guitar and singing songs. The man's name was King David and he said that he was on his way to give a guitar lesson. From there, they began to take lessons from him every week, if not twice a week...
As if by a miracle, after only a few weeks of their lessons together, Nefertiti found their own singing voice. With the discovery of a true voice came even more motivation to write.

Starting on the Acoustic Guitar, Nate began penning songs with quirky titles like "Is the Blunt Rolled Yet?", "Sounds Like", "Open Your Eyez" and "Rich Friend" .
Inspiration caused them to forge a new style of music that would come to be called Acoustic Gangsterism.

What comes across like a blend of Rock, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Folk, Acoustic Gangsterism is very much soul music delivered via a vibrado reminiscent of Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, or Tracey Chapman.
Gracing every stage that gave them and their guitar the chance, Nathen wanted an expanded musical repertoire
. While taking full use of the college atmosphere, Nefertiti and the nefTUNES began to produce their own records on the laptop that was given to as a gift, becaming a pivotal and life-changing instrument.
With experimentation, Nefertiti soon became "nefTUNES", producing songs like "What Part of da Game 49", "Might Go", "Rich Friend" and "Pages Unfold 75", all of which contributed to the first Album, Acoustic Gangsterism, an offbeat compilation that seemed to make fun of the Hip-Hop game as it presented itself in the year 2007.
That summer, inspired by the whole new world of soul music that they had been introduced to, nefTUNES began to delve even deeper into the world of production and composition to complete the Live Concert feel of the album that became known as F**k A Record Deal.
Filled with stand-out compositions and relaxed vocal styles, Record Deal, is nefTUNES' most expressive offering to date.
With the continued love, support, and warm reception from family, friends, and supporters, they remain focused on doing the show and giving the people what they want... ...he thinks the people are ready for a change, they just don't know it's possible...
